HESCO (Hyderabad Electric Supply Company)

HESCO (Hyderabad Electric Supply Company)

Hyderabad Electric Supply Company, known as HESCO, was founded on April 23, 1998. Its Urdu name is مشارکتِ برائے ترسیلِ برق حیدرآباد. HESCO is responsible for supplying electricity to the southern districts of Sindh, excluding Karachi. It plays a key role in meeting the power needs of millions of people in this region.

Before HESCO was formed, electricity in Hyderabad was managed by the Area Electricity Board (AEB), which was one of the eight AEBs created under the WAPDA Act in 1981. In 1998, the Government of Pakistan decided to restructure the power sector. As a result, HESCO replaced the Hyderabad AEB to improve electricity distribution and management in the region.

Although HESCO operates as a separate company, it is owned and controlled by WAPDA (Water and Power Development Authority). After its formation, HESCO received its business license from NEPRA on July 1, 1998, under the Companies Ordinance 1984. Since then, it has been working to provide reliable electricity to homes and businesses across southern Sindh. Its goal is to ensure a smooth power supply and support the growing energy demands of the region.
